How screen repair works

Quality iPhone Screen Replacement

At Berkeley Phone Repair, we use high-quality replacement screen assemblies designed for your specific iPhone model. Each assembly includes the front glass, touch-sensitive digitizer, and LCD or OLED display, all combined into one complete unit.

Whether your iPhone has cracked glass, an unresponsive touchscreen, display lines, or a black screen, we can help you explore your repair options.

Screen replacement options and pricing vary depending on your iPhone model. Call or text us for a personalized quote, and we'll explain the available options so you can choose what works best for your needs and budget.

  1. Layer 1

    Front glass

The outer layer you see and touch. This is usually what cracks or shatters when an iPhone is dropped.

  2. Layer 2

    Touch-sensitive digitizer

A thin layer under the glass that senses your taps and swipes. When it's damaged, touch can stop working or respond in the wrong places.

  3. Layer 3

    LCD or OLED display

The panel that makes the picture. Depending on the iPhone model and the replacement part, this is an LCD or an OLED display.

All three layers come together in the replacement screen assembly we install.

Common screen problems

Signs Your iPhone Screen Needs Repair

A broken iPhone screen isn't always obvious cracked glass. These are the display and touch problems that usually point to the screen assembly.

  • Cracked or shattered front glass

Cracks tend to spread, and sharp edges can make the phone unsafe to hold.

  • Black or blank display

The iPhone rings or vibrates, but nothing shows on the screen.

  • Flickering screen

The display flashes, dims on its own or blinks on and off.

  • Colored lines on the display

Green, pink or white lines, or patches of color that won't go away.

  • Touchscreen not responding

Taps and swipes don't register, or the phone acts on its own.

  • Dead spots or intermittent touch

Some areas of the screen don't respond, or touch comes and goes.

  • Display damage after a drop

Bleeding ink-like spots or a distorted picture after the phone fell.

  • Not always the screen

A black screen or touch problem can also come from the battery, software, liquid or other internal damage. If the cause isn't clear, the phone may need a diagnosis first.

FAQ

iPhone Screen Repair Questions

Answers about cracked, black and unresponsive iPhone screens and how screen replacement works at our shop.

Can you fix a cracked iPhone screen?

Yes. We repair cracked iPhone screens by replacing the complete display assembly. Text or call (510) 575-4408 with your iPhone model and a quick description of the damage so we can go over the options for your phone.

Do you replace just the glass or the complete display?

We replace the complete display assembly — the front glass, the touch digitizer and the LCD or OLED display together. We don't offer glass-only refurbishment, where only the cracked top glass is separated and replaced.

What's the difference between LCD and OLED screens?

An LCD uses a backlight behind the panel, while an OLED lights each pixel on its own. iPhone XR, iPhone 11 and iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation) came with LCD screens; iPhone X, XS and 11 Pro models, and iPhone 12 and newer, came with OLED. Screen options vary by model, so call or text us and we'll go over what's available for your iPhone when you request a quote.

Can you fix an iPhone with a black screen?

Often. If your iPhone still rings, vibrates or makes sounds but the display stays black, the screen assembly may be damaged. A black screen can also be caused by the battery, software or other internal damage, so the phone may need a diagnosis to find the cause first.

How much does iPhone screen replacement cost?

It depends on your iPhone model and the replacement display option, so we don't list one price for every phone. Text or call (510) 575-4408 with your model, and we'll give you a quote.

Do you repair older iPhone screens?

Yes. Along with recent models, we work on screens for many older iPhones, including iPhone 11, XR, XS, X and iPhone SE. Replacement display availability for older models can vary, so let us know your exact model when you get in touch.

Do I need an appointment?

There's no online booking. Please call or text (510) 575-4408 before you visit so we can confirm the screen replacement options for your iPhone.
